FAQ: FOR THE WORKERS

1. Where is the work available ?
   Florida

2. Who will contact me to offer me a job ?
   CAN-AM JOB will contact you and give you access to the Companies interested in hiring you.  They will contact you with questions concerning your work experience. If they are interested in you, they will make you a offer and if you accept, CAN-AM JOB will obtain your U.S. work permit.

3. Who will provide me with a work permit for the United  States ?
   The U.S. Company who will hire you will provide you with the necessary U.S. work permit.

4. Can I bring my family in the United States ?
   Yes, you can bring your wife and your children under 21 years of age.

5. Do I get a U.S. social security number ?
   Yes, for the U.S. Employer Company to be authorized to pay you, you need to get a U.S. social security number.  With your U.S. work permit, you will obtain your U.S. social security number.

6. With my U.S. social security number, will I be entitled to a pension from the United States when I retire ?
   Yes, you will receive a U.S. pension according to your contribution to the U.S. social security.

7. Do I get U.S. unemployment benefits if I get laid-off ?
   Yes, and if you live in Canada, you will be paid U.S. unemployment benefits in Canada.  There is a treaty between Canada and the United States concerning U.S. unemployment benefits paid to Canadians who have worked in the United States.

8. Who pays for my moving expenses ?
   You do.

9. Can I get a permanent residency (green card) to stay permanently in the United States?
   Yes, it is possible if your employer is ready to sponsor you.

10. Can I keep my Canadian benefits if I work in the United States ?
    Each Province has their own criteria, so each situation must be evaluated case by case.

11. What do I do with my Canadian driver's license ?
    It is valid for the United States if you are working on a temporary basis, or you can convert your Canadian driver's license onto U.S. driver's license, but you can only have one valid driver's license.

12. Do I need to transfer my vehicle in the United States ?
    You do not have to, if you are working on a temporary basis.

13. Where do I insure my vehicle ?
    You keep your vehicle insured in Canada but you must advise your insurer that you are working temporarily in the United States.

14. Can I send my kids to school ?
    Yes.

15. Can my wife and/or children work ?
    In most cases, yes.

16. What happens if I do not like working for a particular contractor or if that contractor does not like me?
    We will find you a new job.

17. How much do I have to pay for my U.S. work permit ?
    Some companies pay for your work permit while other companies want their employees to pay their own work permit. The cost is $1000 USD + applicable taxes.

18. What do I need to do to work in the United States ?
    Keep your resume updated with CAN-AM JOB 's database and we will find you a job.

19. Can I go back to Canada to visit when I want to ?
    Yes, your work permit allows you to go back and forth as you please.
